HISTORY
When he came to London as a sixteen year old his first job was working as a kitchen porter at 'The Cockney' in Charing Cross road, rising in time to become the General Manager of all six theatre restaurants in the 'London Entertains' chain. In this capacity he dealt not only with the catering but with the casting of the shows and liasing with Equity and the Musicaians Union.
When Robert Earl took over 'London Entertains' Parry was a consultant on the rise of 'The Hard Rock Cafe' and 'Planet Hollywood', and the development of Earl's theatre restaurants for 'Orlando Entertains' in Florida, USA. During these formative years, he developed a talent for Sound and Lighting, and maintained the role of Sound and Lighting Director for 'Mecca Leisure' and 'The Rank Organisation'. He was also, with considerable success, the live sound engineer, record producer, co-writer and personal manager for various artists and bands including 'Owen Paul' and 'The Resistance'.
In 1990 Parry started 'Cafe Society Dancing' at the 'Notre Dame Hall' which soon became the most popular social dancing club in London, specialising in Ballroom and Latin American styles. From this, his dream to operate his own independent theatre came to be, and 'The Venue' was born. On January the 1st 2000 'The Venue' on Leicester Square became London's newest theatre since 1928 and is now widely accepted as the most exciting theatre space in London.
At 'The Venue' Parry has hosted and has production credits for full blown theatre shows such as Boy George's 'Taboo', which ran for an amazing eighteen months and was nominated for four 'Olivier Awards' (winning one). This was followed up by 'Round the Horne - Revisited' which surprised everyone with its success over sixteen months resulting in a much sought after appearance at the 2004 'Royal Command Performance'.
His talents and efforts have made 'The Venue' the place to be for auditions and rehearsals for most West End productions including, 'We Will Rock You', 'Sleeping Beauty', 'The Women in White', 'Notre Dame de Paris', 'Starlight Express' and 'The King and I'.
Alongside the theatre's on-going productions, he also organises and puts on a wide variety of events including rock concerts (inc.Craig David, Sugababes, Basement Jaxx and most recently, Simple Minds.) fashion shows and shoots,(inc. Jessica Ogden for London fashion week and Harvey Nichols etc.), comedy nights, and product launches.
